Exhibition on 「Planning for Longer - Term Sustainable Development」

Since mid-1990’s, Planning Department has been conducting Outreach Programme in raising public awareness of town planning and in promoting public education in town planning in the community, particularly our younger generations. In recent years, Planning Department visits about 45 secondary schools and 32 public venues every year and organises roving exhibitions in several shopping centres, attracting an average of over 40 000 visitors per year. We have now exhibited the 20 free-standing panels under the theme ‘Planning for Longer-Term Sustainable Development’ staged at outreaching activities in schools and public venues in 2014/15. Given the convenient and easily accessible location of the City Gallery, we hope, through this exhibition, to reach out a larger community as well as to impress the general public on how their community is planned and to promote Hong Kong’s town planning and the latest development projects. Wan Chai North and North Point Harbourfront Areas- Feasibility Study

The Wan Chai North and North Point harbourfront is a valuable stretch of reclaimed land centrally located within the Victoria Harbour, presenting a rare opportunity to ‘re-connect’ people to the waterfront. To get prepared for realising an attractive, connected, vibrant and sustainable new harbourfront for public enjoyment, the Planning Department commissioned the Urban Design Study for the Wan Chai North and North Point Harbourfront Areas (the Study) in January 2015 to guide the detailed planning and design for this area. To ensure timely incorporation of public views, a two-stage Public Engagement (PE) is incorporated in the study process.

The Stage 1 PE is mainly to gather public views on the urban design framework which covers the design objectives, key issues and urban design concepts. The Stage 2 PE is to consult the public on harbourfront enhancement proposals. The Stage 1 PE has been launched in mid June 2015 and will last until mid August 2015. In the meantime, the Study website http://wcnnpuds.hk has been set up, and the Stage 1 PE Digest can be downloaded from the Study website.

The Stage 1 PE includes, amongst other PE events and activities, a Focus Group Meeting (FGM) with the Professional Institutes to collect their views, comments and feedbacks on the Study. The FGM will be organised on 13 July 2015 at the City Gallery with details as follow:

Special Announcement:An additional thematic talk will be held at City Gallery. Welcome to join the activity and please explore more information for enrollment from “Details”.

From a mere means of public transportation to a touristic amenity and an icon of Hong Kong, The Peak Tram has witnessed the dramatic transformation of our city over the past century, while connecting people in Hong Kong and beyond. Planning Department in collaboration with The Hong Kong Heritage Project present to you a thematic exhibition on “City Impression@Connectivity – On the Right Track” to examine the changing but unique role of The Peak Tram, discover its proximity and explore the memories of early commuters, Tram staff, the architect of old Peak Tower, as well as The Peak Tram’s lesser-known stories. Let’s board The Peak Tram together and trace the track of our city development together. The exhibition period is from 2 April 2015 to 6 July 2015.

In relations to the thematic exhibition, we are organising a thematic talk and a series of workshops to facilitate the understanding of the history of Peak Tram and the surrounding developments.
